The Amazing Effects of Our Birds Egg Glaze

When Fire Meets Clay: The Magic of Birds Egg

There are glazes that cover a surface. And then there is Birds Egg — a glaze that tells a story.

At TATOceramika, every sink we create is shaped and fired by hand in our Polish studio. But the Birds Egg glaze holds a special place in our collection. It is one of those rare finishes that looks different every time you see it — depending on the light, the angle, the time of day. And that is entirely by design.

What Makes Birds Egg So Unique?

The Birds Egg glaze is a semi-matte finish built on a warm cream base, scattered with delicate brown and blue speckles. But the real magic happens inside the kiln.

During the firing process — at temperatures exceeding 1200°C — crystalline minerals suspended in the glaze begin to melt and bloom. They spread across the surface in unpredictable patterns, creating micro-effects that shimmer and shift with the light. Some areas catch a subtle iridescence. Others reveal tiny craters where a crystal dissolved and left its mark. No two pieces are ever the same.

This is not a flaw. This is the point.

The Inspiration Behind the Name

The name Birds Egg was chosen for a reason. Think of a robin's egg — that quiet, speckled beauty you might find in a nest in early spring. Delicate, organic, impossibly detailed up close. That is exactly the feeling we wanted to capture in ceramic form.

The cream and brown tones evoke warmth and nature. The blue speckles add a whisper of colour — never overwhelming, always intriguing. The semi-matte surface invites touch in a way that high-gloss finishes simply do not.

How It Looks in a Real Bathroom

The Birds Egg sink works beautifully in interiors that value texture, authenticity, and the beauty of natural materials. It pairs effortlessly with:

  • Aged brass or matte black taps — the warm tones in the glaze complement metal finishes that have character
  • Raw wood vanities — the organic speckle pattern echoes the grain of natural wood
  • Stone countertops — limestone, travertine, or slate all feel at home alongside Birds Egg
  • Linen and natural textiles — soft, earthy tones that let the sink become the focal point

It is a natural fit for Japandi, wabi-sabi, and organic modern interiors — spaces where imperfection is not tolerated but celebrated.

Available in Two Sizes

The Birds Egg glaze is available across our vessel sink collection in two sizes:

  • Ø 40 cm / Height 15–16 cm — our signature size, ideal for standard bathroom vanities
  • Ø 33 cm / Height 12 cm — a compact version perfect for powder rooms, guest bathrooms, and smaller spaces

Both are handmade in Poland, fired twice at high temperature, and shipped worldwide.

Every Piece Is One of a Kind

When you order a Birds Egg sink from TATOceramika, you are not ordering a product from a shelf. You are commissioning a unique object — one that has never existed before and never will again in exactly the same form.

The speckles will fall differently. The crystals will bloom in their own pattern. The light will catch it in a way that is yours alone.

That is what handmade means to us.
